For journalists

Kairn verifies therapist listings against primary sources and re-confirms availability, which lets us publish data most directories can't. If you're reporting on ghost networks, mental-health access, or interstate telehealth, here's a starting point — free to cite with attribution.

Angles & data

Ghost networks: our live directory accuracy report shows aggregate response and listing-freshness measures alongside the 2023 U.S. Senate Finance secret-shopper benchmark of 18%. Replies and automated declines are reported as separate segments, so the response figure can't be read as more than it is.
Access shortage: the State of Therapist Availability study shows, per state, how many listed therapists recently reported accepting new clients.
Interstate telehealth: the compact tracker (and machine-readable dataset) covers PSYPACT and the Counseling Compact from primary sources — including the widely-misreported “enacted is not issuing” distinction. Status: this tracker is compiled from primary sources and dated, but it has not been reviewed by a lawyer, so we keep it out of search indexes until it has. Cite it if it is useful — with that caveat, and check the primary sources it links.

Suggested attribution: “Kairn, a verified therapist directory,” with a link to the specific report. All figures on the report pages are dated and methodology-stated. The compact dataset is versioned at /data/compacts.json.

What we do and don't index. Our reference material — glossary, state telehealth laws, explainers — is written and dated but is deliberately kept out of search indexes until a named clinical and legal reviewer have reviewed it. That is the same standard described on our editorial policy, applied to ourselves. The pages are here and free to read and cite; they are simply not something we advertise as settled.
