Using Kairn

Terms of Use

These terms set the rules for using Kairn's therapist directory, accounts, provider listings, and communication tools.

Effective July 20, 2026

Agreement to these terms

By accessing or using Kairn, you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not create an account, submit information, contact a provider, or use an authenticated feature. A provider's Business Associate Agreement and any paid-service terms shown at purchase supplement these terms. If a Business Associate Agreement conflicts with these terms about protected health information, the Business Associate Agreement controls.

Kairn is a directory, not healthcare

Kairn provides technology for finding and communicating with independent providers. Kairn does not practice medicine, psychology, counseling, or any other healthcare profession; provide diagnosis or treatment; make referrals as a clinician; supervise providers; or make treatment decisions. Using Kairn does not create a clinician-patient relationship with Kairn.

Kairn's communication features are limited to basic first-contact messaging, optional consultation-time coordination, and, where enabled, masked call forwarding. They are not therapy, a clinical recommendation, ongoing clinical communication, monitoring, or care coordination, and they do not replace a provider's own intake, scheduling, recordkeeping, or care systems.

Providers are independent of Kairn and are responsible for deciding whether to accept a prospective client, establishing any clinical relationship, obtaining informed consent, meeting professional and recordkeeping duties, and delivering care. Kairn does not guarantee that a provider is a good fit, will respond, will accept a person as a client, has a particular appointment available, accepts particular insurance, or will obtain coverage or reimbursement.

Not for emergencies

Do not use Kairn search, support, messaging, masked calls, consultation-time requests, or email for an emergency or time-sensitive crisis. Kairn does not monitor contact tools continuously and cannot dispatch emergency help. If you're in crisis, call or text 988 — free, 24/7. Text HOME to 741741 to reach a crisis counselor. In an emergency, call 911.

Listings, verification, and search

Kairn checks listed licenses against available primary sources and shows when a verification was performed. License verification means that the identified source reported the credential as current at that time; it is not an endorsement, a rating of clinical skill, or a promise about future status. Degrees, specialties, fees, insurance participation, locations, and other practice details may be provider-supplied unless a page says otherwise.

Kairn asks providers to reconfirm availability and may pause stale listings, but openings can change at any time. Search ordering follows Kairn's published ranking method; it is a directory ordering, not individualized medical advice. You should independently evaluate a provider and confirm license, fees, insurance, location, telehealth eligibility, and availability before beginning care.

Accounts and acceptable use

You must provide accurate account information, use an account only when authorized, protect sign-in credentials and links, and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity performed through your account.

You may not:

Contact tools and sensitive information

Messages are shared with the provider you select and are not a substitute for emergency or ongoing clinical communication. Submit only information reasonably needed for the provider to respond. Do not submit psychotherapy notes, records subject to 42 CFR Part 2, or information requiring special consent or heightened handling unless Kairn has confirmed in writing that the service supports it.

Our Privacy Policy describes Kairn's data practices. When Kairn handles protected health information for a provider, the separate Business Associate Agreement governs Kairn's obligations to that provider. Providers remain responsible for their own privacy notices, patient rights, consents, and legal duties.

Provider responsibilities

A provider using Kairn must be authorized to offer every advertised service; keep identity, licensure, availability, fees, locations, and contact information accurate; respond to verification and availability requests; protect account and client information; and comply with applicable law, professional rules, informed-consent duties, and scope-of-practice restrictions. Providers must accept the current Provider Business Associate Agreement before Kairn enables features that handle their prospective clients' protected health information.

Providers authorize Kairn to display submitted and approved profile information and media publicly and to verify professional information against authoritative sources. A provider must have the right to submit all profile content and must not include client testimonials, identifying client stories, deceptive claims, or another person's confidential information.

Paid provider services

Some provider features require a paid subscription after any displayed trial. Prices, billing interval, trial terms, and included features shown during checkout form part of these terms. By starting a paid plan, you authorize Stripe to process recurring charges using your selected payment method until cancellation. You can manage billing through the provider dashboard. Taxes and any cancellation or refund rights required by law still apply.

Your content and Kairn's service

You retain rights you have in content you submit. You give Kairn a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, copy, process, transmit, and display that content only as reasonably needed to provide, secure, and improve the service and fulfill legal obligations. Public provider-profile content may be displayed and indexed until it is removed or the listing is deactivated, although cached copies controlled by search engines may take time to disappear.

Kairn's software, branding, original site content, and service design are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These terms do not grant permission to copy Kairn's service or use its branding except as the service expressly allows.

Third-party services and links

Kairn links to provider websites and uses services such as Stripe for provider identity and billing. A third party's own terms and privacy practices apply when you use its service. Kairn is not responsible for independent providers, external websites, insurers, licensing boards, or other third parties it does not control.

Suspension, removal, and ending use

You may stop using Kairn at any time. Clients can delete their accounts from the account page; providers should contact support to offboard a listing and address any remaining subscription or healthcare-record obligations. Kairn may limit, pause, or terminate access, remove content, or pause a listing when reasonably necessary to protect people or the service, investigate suspected abuse, address stale or unverifiable information, enforce these terms, or comply with law. Provisions that by their nature need to continue after termination will survive.

Service availability and disclaimers

Kairn works to keep the service accurate, private, and available, but internet services and source data can fail, change, or contain errors. To the extent permitted by law, Kairn is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted and error-free operation. Nothing in these terms excludes a warranty or right that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.

Limits of responsibility

To the extent permitted by law, Kairn is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for the independent acts, omissions, advice, or care of a provider or other third party. These limits do not apply where prohibited by law and do not limit responsibility that cannot legally be limited.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service or law changes. We will post the revised terms with a new effective date and provide additional notice when required. Continued use after an update takes effect means you accept the updated terms, except where law requires another form of consent.
