PSYPACT
PSYPACT (the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact) is an agreement among participating U.S. states that lets a qualified psychologist provide telehealth across state lines without holding a separate license in each state.
How it works
A psychologist licensed in a PSYPACT state can obtain an APIT (Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology) and then legally see clients located in any other participating state by video. What governs is where the client is during the session.
Why it matters when choosing a therapist
If you live in a participating state, PSYPACT widens the pool of psychologists who can legally treat you — including specialists who aren't licensed locally. It does not apply to counselors or social workers, who use the Counseling Compact or a state license instead.
