APIT (Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology)
An APIT is the specific authorization, granted by the PSYPACT Commission, that allows a psychologist to legally provide telehealth to clients located in other PSYPACT states.
How it works
A psychologist applies for the APIT through the PSYPACT Commission once they hold a license in a participating state. The authorization is verifiable and time-limited, and can be checked against the official PSYPACT records.
Why it matters when choosing a therapist
An out-of-state psychologist can only see you by video under PSYPACT if they actually hold an active APIT — not merely because their home state participates. Kairn verifies the APIT against verifypsypact.org and shows the verification date.
